Meet Jason Edmonds
Known in the Big Apple simply as The Flower Guy he has been bringing stunning blooms into the United States for twenty years. His flowers have adorned the homes of many a celebrity including Paul Simon, Chris Martin Queen Latifah and he even provided 1000 stems of white peonies for Uma Thurmans wedding in St John’s Cathedral.
Born in the city of the bard (Stratford -upon-Avon), this fresh flower purveyor with a rock star persona learned his trade from the ground up while serving his apprenticeship in the flower auctions of Holland as a teenager sweeping floors and making coffee for the buyers – all while embodying the wild and free spirit of England’s punk music during the eighties. A short time into his foray in the Netherlands he progressed to the buyers benches and became one of the youngest buyers in a world dominated by stubborn Dutchmen. “It was a very exiting time” says Jason ” I was young and idealistic, I wore my personality on my sleeve, literally and wasn’t afraid to let it all show. The conservative traders would try to use it against me and tease me. The bow-tie was my trademark showpiece of apparel and when I walked into the large auction rooms the cynical old traders would call……..waiter, sometimes in unison.
Jason fast grew into a commodity in the floral community and began shipping flowers to clients around the world. Shipping flowers to New York was always my dream, so in 1997 I flew to the Big Apple from England to visit some potential clients and that was it, he decided new york was the place for him.
His business grew quickly and Jason established himself among the socialites and celebrity designers as the go to flower guy. He then got a break when a Hollywood movie producer requested a very difficult and rare flower for a scene, jason got it and then “the floodgates opened” says jason, “I was shipping all these rare and beautiful blooms to Hollywood for movies”. It was fascinating to see the flowers we shipped on the big screen. His ability to deliver the goods come rain or shine became his niche and he soon adopted the title, The New York Flower Guy.
Jason insists on finding the finest flowers for his customers and seems to be on an endless plight to find the perfect bloom, to us they are just flowers, to Jason, they are his life’s passion, the colors, the smells, the elegance the story each bloom tells is as alive today as it was as a young boy who was called “waiter” in the auction houses of Holland.
He loves his trade, “this is what I do” says Jason.
His Grandfather Arthur was a legend in the wholesale markets of the England with his bowler hat and tailor made suit. there is no disputing Jason is as they would say in “old blighty ” a chip of the old block
